My Dad {MFTWSC126} and a Tip

It's time to get sketchy with the MFT Wednesday Stamp Club and sketch 126.

I used this week's sketch to create a masculine card for my dad, for Father's Day. I was thinking ahead with his gift because I brought it to Hawaii and gave it to my mom to take home to him, but I didn't think of his card. Doh! At least I still have plenty of time to get it in the mail so it won't be late.

I started with a Whip Cream card base then added a layer of Nightshift Blue. I built the card on a layer of corrugated cardboard for lots of texture. I used the Insert It - Instaframe Die-namics to cut out the Kraft photo frame, then used it again to cut out the Whip Cream piece for the image.

The image is from Inspired By Travel and I stamped it with Hot Fudge Premium Dye Ink. I added two X's which I stitched with Hemp Cord and I have a tip below to make stitching with Hemp Cord a lot easier.

Along the bottom of the frame I stamped a sentiment from Clearly Sentimental about Fathers. I used the Harlequin Die-namics to cut out the Orange Fizz strip, which you'll see again on the inside of the card and I added a few navy enamel dots for just a little shine.

For the banner along the top I used the Sentiment Strips Die-namics to cut out the Orange Fizz banner, then I stamped "My Dad" with Hot Fudge Premium Dye Ink using the Typewriter Alphabet. On the Nightshift Blue layer behind the Instaframe I used the chicken wire stamp from Distressed Background Blocks, stamped with white chalk ink.

On the inside I layered Orange Fizz and Nightshift Blue harlequins, then I stamped another sentiment from Clearly Sentimental about Fathers. I ❤ this sweet little sentiment, almost as much as I ❤ my daddy. I'm his only girl (I have three older brothers), and yes, I'm still a daddy's girl...but don't tell anyone.

Here are all the sketchy details:

There's a prize each week for one participant, chosen at random. You may use any stamps and supplies that you wish. This week's keyword is MFTWSC126. All you need to do to enter is upload your card to the gallery at Splitcoast and enter the keyword in the keyword box during the upload process. After the deadline (noon Eastern on Tuesday) one random winner will receive up to a $20 gift voucher!

Be sure to head over to the MFT Blog to view the entire list of design team participants...there's plenty of inspiration for you with today’s sketch!
Tip:
Have you ever tried to stitch with Hemp Cord? I don't like using a needle because it creates too big of a hole, and Hemp Cord is pretty stiff so it can be done without a needle, BUT I saw a tip online (I don't recall where) a long time ago about using a dental floss threader. Talk about a light bulb moment!

Simply create the holes first using a paper piercer. Then use the dental floss threader as a "needle" to pull your Hemp Cord through the holes. The great part is that the dental floss threader doesn't make the hole bigger and the loop to put your Hemp Cord through is super big, so you won't get squinting lines around your eyes. ;-)

Here are the dental floss threaders I use. I think I have a lifetime supply in this little package since you can use the same one over and over and over again.

Here are the supplies I used:

I LOVE everything about your card for your dad. It brought a tear to my eye!! (My dad passed away almost 8 years ago) ~~ but I think it would have anyway because it is so beautiful and the sentiments are perfect!!! The floss threader idea is genius even for w/ tiny buttons and hemp. etc... that are hard to work with. Adding those to my target list right now... THX!!
